How can I use SpaceClaim to fix an imported part that is not solid?

      SpaceClaim has an entire toolbar dedicated to repairing problematic geometry. These tools are located in the Repair tab.

      The three repair tools to begin with are Stitch, Gaps, and Missing Faces. It's important to become familiar with each of these functions and understand the conditions where they are most effective. Each tool has several parameters that can be adjusted to suit a specific situation.

      Stitch: Joins surfaces whose edges are within a specified distance of each other. The prime candidate for the Stitch tool is a model that is not solid, and which has 2 or more individual surfaces listed in the structure tree. Once the model's surfaces are united and "watertight", the model will automatically solidify. Areas that qualify are highlighted in red. These can be clicked individually, or the check mark can be clicked to stitch all areas.

      Gaps: Checks for areas where small gaps exist between faces. The size of the gap can be controlled by setting a maximum distance and/or maximum angle of deviation. Gaps will be reported and highlighted in red. In some instances they may be very small. The highlighted areas can be clicked indivually, or the check mark can be clicked to stitch all areas.

      Missing Faces: Identifies open faces in the geometry that should be filled. Search results can be filtered by adjusting the minimum angle and/or minimum distance. Several options for how the resulting face should be created are available. For a model with multiple surfaces it is important to use Stitch first. Openings (such as holes) will be identified as missing faces if they are not joined to the adjacent faces. This can result in legitimate open areas being covered.
