      The Nusselt number represents the ratio of the heat transfer due to convection to the heat transfer due to conduction that would occur in a motionless fluid:

      Nu = hL/k

      where

      h is the convective heat transfer coefficient

      L is the characteristic length

      k is the thermal conductivity

      The Nusselt number can be also seen as non-dimensional temperature gradient at a surface.
