I ran a simulation of an Airlift reactor with variations in tube draft, using a mesh that formed boxes with sizes of 3 mm and 5 mm. I tried using a porous medium in the mixture, but it had difficulty converging. Then I used the Eulerian method, and it worked. However, the fluid did not penetrate the walls. The porosity value was correct. What I’m confused about is the direction; the inlet is located exactly in the center. Should the direction value be set to 1 for the remaining cells, or should it be set to direction 2?

Direction of what? Fluid shouldn't penetrate walls, they're supposed to stop fluid leaking. 

For an inlet it's usual to assign either a "normal vector" to the flow or components.
