How to best model a stack of Belleville Washers?

      Hi,

I am doing a Modal and Static Structural analysis on a T-bolt and strap assembly. How do I properly model a series stack of Belleville washers to simulate the pre-load properly? I need to ensure the compression forces correctly transfer through the stack to the straps. The washers are meant to provide damping, so I need to accurately represent that behavior.

      Thank you!

Build a standalone axisymmetric model of the bellville washer stack and obtain the force vs compression plot from that model.

In your system model, replace each bellville washer stack with a Spring-Damper element.  The element can be defined using the force vs compression data from the standalone model.  You can apply a preload to that spring-damper element.  You will have to make an assumption for the damping and check the sensitivity of your results to the value of damping used.
