Question on LED collimator example from Zemax opticstudio sample file

I have two questions on the LED collimator lens in the Zemax opticstudio sample file.

      (1) How we target the beamwidth for example a 20 degree or 30 degree beam width

      (2) I want to add a micro lens array infront of the TIR lens and optimzie for the uniformity.

Possible if someone can share the optimizer and the surface defination for this, will be really helpful.

I am adding both pictures so its clear what I am asking.

      Hi!

For your first question, you can use the Optimization Wizards and use as criterion the RMS Angular Radius, X or Y.  Selecting the RMS Angular Radius target would take into account the incident angle of the rays as they are. However, the RMS Angular X and Y options would only take into account the incident angle in specific directions, i.e. with respect to X or Y direction.

For your second question, if you want this kind of geometry I think you can use the Array Ring object, which is a collection of identical objects, based upon a single parent object, arranged in a ring or arc. Array Ring Have a look at the sample file Samples\Non-sequential\Geometry Creation\Ring Array Example 3- Hexapolar Array

      Best regards,

Hi Berta, agreed, the lenslet arrays are all rectangular in shape, however its easier to work with as I don't need multiple arrays to adjust like in the example you are suggesting. Possible to make the rectangular lenslet to circular or hexagonal as you suggesting?

Hi! Yes, as you said the lenslet arrays are all rectangular volumes and currently there is no other shape available. In fact, although it may be a bit more difficult to manage in the non-sequential component editor, as you have an extra line, it is recommended, if possible, instead of using these object to make a single lenslet and then create an array using the Array Object as is usually more efficient because ray traces more quickly.

      Hi Berta,

Thank you about the help on textures. Speaking of micro lens array (MLA), very similar shape is macro focal reflector. Below are the pictures from Lucid shape. Does Zemax has a surface property to define similar shape as shown below?

      (2) On that note, how I can get a CAD file profile import into Zemax as a freeform surface?  I saw an old post in the link below but its not complete. Do you have any other lead that will allow me to take the cross section and create a zemax freeform surface to create reflectors?
