Ansys FLuent on HPC Cluster

      Hi,

I am a researcher performing frost formation simulations using an academic version of Ansys Fluent. Currently, I am only running one simulation at the time in my workstation (which has 20 Cores). I would like to understand if it is possible to run multiple Ansys Fluent simulations in parallel in the same machine while still using the GUI. Also, is it possible to run Ansys Fluent on a HPC cluster and how can I do that?

      Thank you very much

      Filippo

You can run as many cases as you have licences for, but that's also limited by the core count. Additionally depending on the memory channels you may find you lose efficiency before filling all of the cores. So, for example, I typically run 2-3 Fluent tasks on my laptop but only use 3 of the 4 work cores.

Fluent will also run on the cluster, but talk to local IT to find out how it's set up. We use a VNC/DCV session onto a head node and then Slurm to schedule and control the jobs. I view the GUI on the VNC window, which is hosted elsewhere that then connects to the wider cluster(s).
