LS Run Gui keeps crashing

The simulation will run (if the gui stays functional long enough for me to start the simulation).  But once the simulation starts running the gui will freeze and crash.  Ive tried clean installs and clearing the %appdata%roaming_LSTC and %appdata%roaming_Ansys files, as well as the %appdata%local_Ansys file. At best those will get the LS Run gui to start, and crash during the full simulation. I have no other Ansys programs on this device so there should not be any other process using the same lsrunpid number.   Shorter simulations (ones that fail early) are less likely to crash. But files that I have proven to run fine on other machines will crash still the gui on this one.

I am on an  Asus g14 (2024), with windows and drivers up to date.  It feels like it might be a gpu driver issue (because the lsrun.out file still completes even if the LS Run gui crashes).  I have checked sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, without finding any corrupted files on my pc. I have an academic license through my university for workbench, but that does not extend to LS Dyna (I believe) so I am reaching out on here instead of through the Ansys account manager for my University.  I understand another user solved the problem with a factory reset, I would like to avoid that if possible.

      Hello Troy,

LS-RUN can be downloaded as a standalone program; it is also packaged with each LS-PrePost release. Would you be able to download the standalone version from
      https://ftp.lstc.com/anonymous/outgoing/lsprepost/LS-Run/
or update your LS-PrePost to v4.13 and try it?
      https://ftp.lstc.com/anonymous/outgoing/lsprepost/4.13/

Please let me know if either of these works for you.

      Thanks,
      Alex

Thank you for the reply.  I tried downloading both of those files.  I had to copy the executable/ license file from "C:\Program Files\LS-DYNA Suite R16.1 Student\lsdyna\ls-dyna_smp_d_R16.1_180-gd50332dbe5_winx64_ifort190_sse2_studentversion.exe" into the C:\Program Files\ folders for the 4.13prepost.exe and separate LTSC folder for the individual lsrun.exe to access the student license.

With both the individual lsrun.exe or opening lsrun from within prepost.exe, the gui would crash while I was trying to select that studentversion.exe in the execute line or when trying to select the .k file.  The simulation still runs and produces a normal lsrun.out file with no errors.  Within the nvidia control panel I set lsrun.exe to forced using the dedicated graphics card; that did not help either.

As an update: it seems to be a network connection issue.
Background: My university has an ansys workbench license, to use this license we must connect to the univeristy internet or their vpn.  However, I was trying to use LS Dyna as a standalone software, downloading the free version that comes with the student license.  I originally had other ansys programs connecting to the university license, but those were the first things I uninstalled when trying to resolve the issue of LS Run crashing.

Overall LS Run works without issue when connected to the universities internet or vpn.  Even though it calls the student license, lsrun.out files state:

        [license/error] *** ANSYS LICENSE MANAGER ERROR ***

[license/error] Request name dyna does not exist in the licensing pool.
Student license active; 198 days remaning.

         Executing with ANSYS license"

Which I assume means it couldn't connect to a commercial license and is using  the student one.  I have tried to clear AppData/local and /roaming folders related to the Ansys workbench license.  However LS Run crashes when not connected to a network with a license file on it, even though it does not try to call or connect to that license.  Maybe something I couldn't uninstall or clean has been crossed, and now LS Run checks for a licensed connection before continuing.
