SubscriberHi everyone,I am currently conducting simulations for solar concentrating collectors using the DO and MC radiation models. I now have a problem: I have applied the same boundary conditions (irradiance, solar azimuth, reflectivity, absorptivity, etc.) but only changed the radiation model. However, the energy flow calculated by the MC radiation model on the surface of the absorber is twice as high as that calculated by the DO model.

Ansys EmployeeHello,
Can you please share the screenshots of the temperature, radiation contours for better understanding? Please note that MC is quite expensive. How is the mesh?

SubscriberThanks for your reply,my model has approximately 4 million grids. The grid quality is all greater than 0.2.This is the radiation distribution map of the surface of the absorber. This was calculated using the MC model. If the DO radiation model were used, the radiation on the surface of the absorber would be much lower (under the same boundary conditions). Even when I attempted to improve the accuracy of the DO radiation model, the result remained the same (much lower than the Monte Carlo model).  This is the radiation that occurs when the light entering the optical port is focused onto the absorber by a non-imaging concentrator (the two curved mirrors on the sides will completely converge the light entering the optical port onto the surface of the absorber). The following is the schematic diagram of the system and the radiation distribution map of the absorber surface.

SubscriberThe first one is merely a schematic diagram. All my calculations were conducted using Fluent 2024R1.
