Simple shear deformation expected.

      Hi,

First step is insertion or downwards movement. These images (4) are just for the context or reference followed by real query.

Okay, now the first step is complete. Now I began the retention process (upwards displacement of top part). In this process, the small lock on lower part is supposed to shear (which we found out in experimentation) but in Ansys the top part is showing deformation instead.

As you can see, the beam is bending due to tensile force but in actual experiment, the beam remains stiff and the small lock gets sheared. So how can I get that result. Is it possible to show shear in Ansys ? If yes, can you please kindly tell me the process of doing the same ?

      Thanks,

Hi there again! Did you check stresses? Which materials are you using here? Are those material linear or nonlinear? if the material is linear you would not see failure.

      Hi Aniket,

First of all, sorry for delayed response. It always feels good to get your reply on a post.

The materials I am using here are Polypropylene (PP) for top part and Nylon 6/6 (aka PA66) for the bottom part. I added plasticity (Bi-linear Isotropic Hardening) only to PA66 because I wanted the lock to shear. I got data about yield strength of PA66 on google (Other values I got from the supplier) but value of tangent modulus was not available or at least I don't know how to find it so I just put the value to 0 MPa. I think Ansys will assume it to be 'elastic - perfectly plastic' but I assumed that as best case scenario and give me the required results. The solution isn't converging for some reason (I'll check for reasons and edit my post accordingly) that's why I am not getting any accurate stress values to compare them to Yield strength and figure out if it will shear the lock or not.

Following is the value (highlighted) I used for yield strength but I am not sure what the "grade count" stands for. If you know about that too please kindly help.

      Thanks,
