Does Ansys allow the application of a hydrostatic load and horizontal acceleration in two load steps for the siesmic analysis of a water tank using static methods. Load step 1 is hydrostatic load, load step 2 is horizontal acceleration, 40 in/s^2. OR will the accleration apply to only the material body? Are HSFLD241/242 elements being used?

Ansys EmployeeThe hydrostatic load will be applied as pressure table load. HSFLD elements aren't used. Acceleration is a body load applied to the mass of the elements. There's no conflict between the two loads. You can create a small model and look at the ds.dat to see what is done (assuming your in the Mechanical gui.)

SubscriberThanks dlooman, if I need to include the effects of the water mass, the water must be be modelled as a point mass scoped to the walls of the tank or is there a work-around? The confusing part is that when the hydrostatic load is used, the reaction force correctly accounts for the mass of the fluid, based on the volume. However, your statement implies that the mass from the hydrostatic load is not affected by the acceleration load in step 2 in the horizontal direction?Â
