SubscriberHi all,Unfortunately, I’ve been having a licensing issue. It seems to me to be with our school's academic license. I’ve had the license settings configured for a while—going back as far as January this year—and I was able to open Workbench and Fluent without issue. For the past couple of months to now I have had multiple issues with getting the Fluent license to work to the point it now no long appears in Workbench and the only console output I get from Fluent is:Connected License Server List:
Unexpected license problem; exiting.Hit return to exit.I’ve tried clearing the cache to no avail and I haven’t found much help online. Under license settings I have two servers set: 1. the universities server and 2. to my local machine. When I produce the diagnostic log from license settings I’ve noticed the lines:kil-lic-09.university.com: license server UP (MASTER) v11.19.5
kil-lic-09: License server machine is down or not responding. (-96,7:11001 "WinSock: Host not found (HOST_NOT_FOUND)")I’ve compiled the diagnostic log files from license settings and license manager and can provide the print outs if helpful.Any help or advice you can suggest is greatly appreciated.Thank you. -

Ansys EmployeeHi,
Launch Ansys Licensing Settings 202x Rx as an admin> Click on license feature> hit on test (it should show a green check mark)> if test is success then save it and click on “feature in use”> if any error share the screenshot.
Test if ping and telnet is a success from client machine if yes and still Feature in Use (Ansys Licensing Settings> Features in Use) shows -96 error then the issue is related to DNS.
Please follow the below method.
- Add entries in hosts file (take help from your IT team to add the server IP entry and save the hosts file which needs admin access)
- Open the HOSTS file on client machine and add the license server name and IP of the license server in that hosts file.
- Path: “ C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file “ as per the following format in your client machine :
- Path: For linux you can goto etc/hosts file (root access) and at the end add entries
IP Address Servername FQDN
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx abcd abcd.win.com
where,
xxx represents the IP address of server
abcd represents the name of your server.
abcd.win.com represents the name of your fully qualified domain name
- To change the license name in the license file and restart it, for example replace “abcd” with “abcd.win.com” which doesn’t need entries in host file on client end.
