I am trying to simulate a nozzle, where liquid CO2 gets injected and expands to gas as well as solid CO2 particles.
I want to find out the particle sizes of the solid CO2 as well as their portion in the gas/solid flow. What models should I use for that?
I thought about using VOF to DPM to simulate the breakup of the liquid phase, but is it possible to get the DP particles to be able to boil and or transition to solid particles?
Or is there a better approach, since the VOF is time consuming?

SubscriberThe nozzle (Ø0.1mm x 1mm) is injecting in an agglomeration chamber Ø4mm x 27mm. The chamber is initially filled with air at 1 atm, but I think it should be possible to assume CO2 gas as well (steady state behaviour)

Ansys EmployeeI will run first of all a high resolved VOF simulation with VOF-to-DPM. The result of the simulation (the PSD and injections points) can be used in a second run where you focus only on particles evaporating into the surrondings.Â

SubscriberI see, and what about the DPM transition, respectively the sublimation of solid CO2? Do I need to use droplets, and therefore also a species model?
