modelling composites in 2D

      Hello,

I want to model a composite in 2D plane stress using ANSYS Mechanical. I have already defined the material properties for each composite layer. How can I define the fiber orientation, considering that it is a 2D model? Specifically, the fibers are oriented at 45 degrees relative to the XY plane.

      Is this possible in ANSYS?

      Thank you for your help!

See if you can use the "element orientation" in Mechanical to rotate/change the element coordinate system.

Material properties are applied in the Element coordinate system

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, "element orientation" is disabled for 2D analyses in ANSYS.
Do you have any suggestions on how I can define the fiber orientation of the composite as out-of-plane (e.g., 45°), even though the surface lies in the XY plane?

      Looking forward to your insights

Anyone has any experience on how to model compoites in 2D?
