Hi guys,
I need to study a torsional buckling of I-Beam... but I have a big problem with creating the model ... you know thers is tow option :
1- beam as line body model
i am facing a problem when i want to apply the Distributed force .... I dont want to apply the force always direkt on the line body but on the upper flange like the pics ,,,,,,,Because this case gives the lower load multiplier as the case when force applied direkt on the line body
2 - as Solid object
the load is here applied on the upper area ..... in this case i cant applying the load at the center of section (in The opposite of the first case)
could you helping me please .....I just want to adjust the point of distributed load along the line shown in the first image(3 cases)
Regards
Masri

why you can't apply load on center in the solid model case?
just create a named selection using the worksheet for the nodes at the center (https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/Secured?returnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v195/wb_sim/ds_NS_Criteria.html) and apply it using nodal force (https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/Secured?returnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v195/wb_sim/ds_Nodal_Force.html).

Masri,
I had understood your query in first thread, and the (named selection with worksheet) and (nodal force) are the only two things that you will need to filter out the nodes at the center of the section without needing to split the geometry in geometry modeler.
following video explains it for faces, you should be able to do the same for the nodes as well.

Hi Aniket,
sorry for my late replying
I was busy with the critical situation due to the Corona virus in my city , However I divided the solid body in Design modeler causeI could not catch the points located on the body center line ,So I divided the solid body into two parts as shown in the pic
how can I choose the surface resulting from the division in order to apply the force on it (The surface shown in the image above) ..... selecting by suface did not recognize it ... can u help me to solve this problem?

I hope you and your loved ones are safe and sound. Did you watch the video in previous post? It selects faces and applies worksheet criteria to select the faces that fall in similar criteria. Like I mentioned before you need to select nodes and apply criteria in worksheet. Fiddle around a bit in the named selection you'll understand what I mean.
Now you have sliced the geometry, so you already have two surfaces at that location. So create a multibody part with shared topology in design modeler so there is a single face shared by top and bottom body. And then simply hide one body and select the face.

thnx Aniket... that was the solution. It remains only to evaluate the results because the results differ greatly from manual calculation. I will open a new discussion to figure that out ,,,,
