ICEM O grid mesh for sloped pipe

      Hi

I am trying to use ICEM to create a O grid mesh for a 3D circular pipe of some length. The pipe is sloped 3% and bents by 45 degrees at the end and extends little more length. When i try to create a block and try to associate edges to curve then some errors are coming and it is not placing the edges inside the curve. What shall i need to do? thanks

      Hi,

after association of edges to curve, the vertices along the green egde can be adjusted correctely with move vertex. You find it in Blocking > move vertex > move vertex or (shortcut: control m). If these blocks are nicely alinged you can add the o-grid for all blocks.

For additional questions please add a snapshot or tetin + blocking to identify your specific problem.

Hi, thanks, I have attached the pipe picture and the block. When i am doing the associate edges to curve it is not performing the operation successfully and when i do the move vertices then it is not creating symmetric aligned squares within the circles. I think may be i have to incline the block or split it? But i am very new to ICEM so any idea is greatly appreciated, thanks. THe next image is given below.

Hi, yes you have to split also near the 45 deg angle and associate also the edges there on the curves. When you switch on the surfaces in wireframe, you can better see if the verts are good aligned in flow direction. Otherwise you may switch on the premesh and you see then clearly the twisted mesh and get a better idea where to move the verts. CAD points at the correct location can also help. Then you also have to associate verts at points. You find it also in the association menue. If thisĀ  is done you will see only bad angles after checking the quality in the 45 deg corners in flow direction. An Ogrid for these two blocks and a add face on in- and outlets improved angles finally and captures the boundary layer. This youtube clip ixplain it also and could help also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7BdQnuutnQ

Hi, thanks, I will try it. do you think there are other better tools for meshing? i have used ansys meshing withing the workbench only and trying ICEM now.
