SubscriberAfter I import a CATIA file via CadNexus into Ansys Design Modeler, I was able to get parameters and geometry I need for design optimization (DOE). I thought that CadNexus is not needed after that; I assumed that the optimizer parametrically transforms the geometry, that the model will be changed in DM and CadNexus will not be needed. But it seems that CadNexus is still needed.
Can someone clarify if parametric geometry updating is done in DM or Catia during DOE studies? I’m using Ansys WB17.

SubscriberI don't know about CadNexus but the ANSYS supported CAD interfaces have the CAD system update the geometry. It's possible to create parameters in DesignModeler instead but that is extra work. -

Ansys EmployeeIf a CAD parameter is defined in the CAD program (say like a hole diameter), the CAD program is required if you want to change this value.Â
In most cases, Ansys interfaces directly with the CAD program. The plugin sends this new value back to CAD, then commands the CAD to regenerate.Â
Principle is same with Catia V5 and CADNEXUS. CADNEXUS is just used as a bridge between Ansys and Catia V5.
If you wanted to parameterize the hole diameter completely within DM, you would have to fill the hole in, then redrill the hole and parameterize the diameter.Â
