Time varying spring for explicit dynamic simulation

      Greetings,

I would like to perform a dynamic simulation (explicit dynamics) and wish to define a time varying spring between two remote points. I intend to use workbench and script it using APDL commands or python.

Is this even possible? Are there any tips/examples regarding that?

      Thank you!

      Hi

First Explicit Dynamics is a solver and is different to MAPDL – so MAPDL command cannot be used with this type of analysis.

I do not think we have an example of that (not sure what time variation you mean, you refer to the spring stiff., being time dependent or, etc.) in the explicit solver, but to be sure perhaps other forum members can chime in here.

      All the best

      Erik

      Hi Erik,

      Thank you for your answer.

I am trying to solve an M C K problem where K has some time varying elements in it. So it would be remote point 1 connected to remote point 2 using a 6X6 matrix which is a periodic function of time.

Alternatively, in my problem the time varying stiffness can be expressed as a force. This means that remote point 1 and remote point 2 are not connected to each other by a spring, but rather two equal but opposite forces are applied to them. These forces are not a function of time but a function of the DOFs of both remote points.

I hope I've become a bit more specific. Maybe transient structural is more suitable for my case.

      Any other ideas maybe?
