compression test of scaffold or lattice structure

      hello

Im working on a lattice structure and i did several compression test with 2mm/min. i have force and displacement. i have the following questions, i would be aooreciate if any one answer them.

1 - which area should i consider for stress calculation?in some paper total area are considered and other papers consider the area subtracted the hole areas. i mean i have force and displacement so when i want to calculate the stress based on real force for plotting which area should i consider.

2- for boundary condition i chose 2 plate which resemble the grippers but i think i need just the bottom plate or can i use remote support and displacement.

      thank you

      Hey,

The total area subtracted by the hole area makes more sense. I have seen papers which have used cross sectional area which cuts through the holes. Also there are many literature available which compare FEA results to experimental stress-strain curves. Check them out and make the best decision.

For your 2nd question using the 2 plates does seem like the best scenaria. You can make those 2 plates rigid to avoid increase in the simulation time.
You can definitely use remote displacement directly as well. I don't expect too much difference between the two. If you are unsure you can try them both and see if there are considerable differences.

thank you, which type of stress should i consider to compare with stress strain results, i mean middle principal or maximum principal?in contour i have also positive and negative stress which means tensile and compression
