Unable to open “Workbench” created HFSS project in Student Electronics Desktop

An HFSS simulation was created in Ansys Workbench for a class on a lab computer, and the HFSS geometry, solution, etc was saved as a .wbpj file + supporting folder. We now desire to continue work on this token project after the class ended using the free Ansys Electronics Desktop Student, which includes HFSS.

We cannot open the project in Ansys Electronics Desktop Student, though.

It will not open a .wbpj file. I have tried navigating to the 'HFSSProject.aedt' file (in \dpall\global\Ansoft), but it says "This file cannot be opened because it is part of an Ansys Workbench project."

I have also tried creating an Archive in Ansys Workbench on the lab computer with the original HFSS project. Then I tried "Restore Archive" in Ansys Electronics Desktop Student, but it does not work. It says "[Error] Unable to read archive file C:\Users\.zip, aborting"

How can one open an HFSS project that was created in Workbench in Desktop Student?

It seems you are having trouble opening the “Workbench” HFSS project in Student Electronics Desktop. To resolve this, please check the project compatibility. Additionally, you can try using el buscador de estatus for any relevant updates or troubleshooting steps.

Thank you for your speedy reply.

How does one "check project compatibility"? HFSS is HFSS, there is no variation, correct? The only difference is that the project was created in the Workbench environment (ANSYS 2022 R2 Workbench) and we are attempting to load it into Ansys Electronics Desktop Student. Both have HFSS.

The geometry took weeks to create. It would be a huge waste to start over. Even if there is a way to export the geometry from the Workbench HFSS file in a way that it can be imported into a new Electronics Desktop Student file, that would save days or weeks of work.

You can save a copy of the HFSS design (File > Save As).

It is recommended to use the latest release 2024R2

This is what I originally did, and it did not work.

The saved file (a copy, made via File>Save As) can only successfully be opened in Workbench>HFSS, it cannot be opened in Electronics Desktop. Problem is still unsolved.

I do not control the software my academic institution licenses, otherwise I would happily use the latest release 2024R2.
