Mesh adjustment

  I have modelled a soil nailed wall using all solid elements. I have given meshing method as multi zone just to make sure that all quadrilateral elements are found. However as show in picture below mesh is too fine around the nails holes in soil mass. This adds up to around 200,000 nodes. What is the problem ? or What is happening ? All contacts are bonded.
  
  How can I reduce number of nodes ?
