Hi Andrew

Please see the Mechanical APDL help, Operations Guide chapter 4.  This details the different ways to start MAPDL.  Your workflow will be to launch it as a batch process.  There are OS specific details, and even shell type (on Linux) specific details so giving you an exact answer is a little difficult without knowing all of those details.

p.s. WB Mechanical can work with different solvers; and Ababqus has explicit and implicit capability.  Most of the (structural) analysis systems in WB are using MAPDL as the solver, but not all.  So which specific analysis system are you asking about?
