Zemax 3D layout freezes

      Dear all,

      I have a problem for a while now that occasionally my 3D layouts freeze, so I cannot zoom and pan any more. My workaround is to clone the window, as the functionality is back in the cloned window, and then I delete the frozen one. But it is strange that it happens, and while it happens for about a year now, it never happened in the 15 years before I used Zemax. So I wonder if there is a bug somewhere.

      Thank you for reaching out to us, and sorry to hear that you are facing issues with your 3D layout. May I ask you what vearion of ZOS are you using and whether this happens on all of your designs or on a specific one?

      Hi Niki, 

      it happened on all 2023 Ansys Zemax versions. I recently installed the 2024 R1 release and it happens there as well. It happens on various designs I made, so it seems not to be linked to a particular design file. My computer runs Win10/64.

      One theory I have is that the 3D layout is operated by the graphics card and my graphics card could be at fault. So I would be interested to learn if anyone else has this problem, or is it just me. If the latter, it points to a hardware problem on my machine.

      Hi Jurgen,

      Thank you for coming back. Since you are worried about your hardware, is it possible to install ZOS on another PC and check that as well? I will come back in case we have other users reporting the same issue.

      Niki hi,

      Same issue , after a while the 3D layout freese. If haapends to me and also to few colleges I have.

      After it happend the only way to recover is to close the window and open new one.

      Interesting, Niki, thanks for your reply. I really thought the graphics card of my PC may be the culprit. But as you and some of your colleagues have the problem, it must be something else. Unless we all have broken graphics cards ... rather unlikely.

      Hi Harel and Jurgen,

      Thank you for your additional reports here! I had a look on our system and found that this is resported as a bug! We now have a fix in place and it is planned to be available in the 2024R2 release of OpticStudio.

      I still see this happening 2024 R2.01.  Seems to happen when I do something like load a lens from the lens catalog.
