SubscriberHi, I'm trying to simulate the acoustic modes in an optical fiber. I've created a 2D geometry using SpaceClaim - a simple circle with a diameter of 125 micrometer, and in Mechanical set it as the material "Fused Silica - SiO2", then I meshed it, but can't find any modes since I get the error "No volume for the geometry". Would like some guidance and help from the community:)

Hi
Are you sure you do not need TEM/EM modes?
Why do you need acoustic modes in an optical fibre? Also what system are uisng (you need Modal since you have elastic material and not Modal Acoustic which is only for gas/fluid - also 2D does not make much sense)
All the best
Erik

SubscriberHi Erik,
Yes, I'm looking for the acoustic modes in an optical fiber.
It is related to my PhD research, regarding Brillouin Scattering.
So I want to find the resonant frequencies, determined by the geometry and the mechanical properties of the medium.Â
(I do it in COMSOL, but rather use Ansys's tools).
For this I provide a cross section of the said geometry, and serach for the radial  acoustic modes - that's why I want 2D simulation and not 3D. -

Ansys EmployeeHello - a colleague of mine that you know, will be in touch with you and the University to discuss this.

All the best for now
