SubscriberGreetings.
I just installed ansys academic version. I am taking a class about this and I know how to use workbench. But nothing is working correctly. Except few.
I can start WorkBench without problem
I can create standalone fluent, st-st thermal, static structural
I can create geometry with spaceclaim
But after that nothing works. When I right click and generate mesh, nothing happens. When I click update mesh from top bar, I get error . Etc.
(Update failed for the Model component in Steady-State Thermal. Error updating cell Model in system Steady-State Thermal. View the messages in the Mechanical editor for more details.)
Also when I try to add boundary conditions in st-st thermal with right click, it also doesn't work. Actually I can click temperature, convection etc but nothing happens.
To be on the safe side, I was using fluent without legitimate license. I uninstalled it and installed academic version. It didnt work so I uninstalled in and re-installed, still same.
I tried to add multiple screenshots but its not allowed.
I hope we can figure this out because my final(next week) is on workbench.
Thank you in advance,
Eren. -

Ansys EmployeeHi Eren,
This is odd.
Try this,
close all ANSYS related applications, then rename the following folders to anything else (or you can just delete them)
C:Users
AppDataRoamingANSYS
C:Users
AppDataLocalSpaceClaim
C:Users
AppDataRoamingSpaceClaim
If this doesn't help, please open up CMD Prompt, then type
set
then enter. Post the output of this.
Also, do you have any .err file under (default location)
C:Program FilesANSYS Inc
C:Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Student
Thanks,
Win

Ansys EmployeeHi Eren,
Do you have any .err files under
Program FilesANSYS IncANSYS Student ?
When you uninstalled and reinstalled, did you completely remove 'ANSYS Inc' folder before re-installing the software ? If not, I would recommend to try again.
Also, open CMD Prompt, type
dxdiag
then post the screenshots of first tab and 'Display' tab.
Thanks,
Win

SubscriberHello Mr. Win,
I forgot to mention, there was no .err file. I actually installed it to D drive, where previous install was on C drive. But I tried to delete all the remnants of Ansys by searching "Ansys" in drive and delete all the founding folders. I don't know if there is any better way to find all the remnants of previous install of Ansys.

Ansys EmployeeHi Eren,
Thanks for the info.
Sorry, the Display tab has the scroll bar and it's missing one piece of info that I was looking for.
In dxdiag, under Display tab -> Device , can you scroll down to the bottom and take the screenshot of that tab again ?
I would also recommend to try updating your Intel graphics driver or try rolling back the driver (all these can be done in Device Manager -> Display Adapters -> Properties -> Driver
Thanks,
Win

Ansys EmployeeHi Eren,
Thanks for the info. Yes, some dedicated graphics card would be better than your integrated Intel graphics. However, I would note that even Nvidia gtx1050ti is not officially supported by ANSYS but I've also seen a lot of people successfully use this card with ANSYS.
Please keep us posted how it goes once you have a chance to try that card.
Thanks,
Win

SubscriberMr. Win,
As I said I was using ANSYS 13- Fluent without any problem. I don't think this problem is related to graphic card in anyway. But I changed my settings, yes problem persist. Right click and doesn't work and error is still: "Mesh generation did not complete due to poor quality elements or incorrect input. Please try meshing with another mesh method or different mesh options."
As I mentioned before, is there any easier way to delete all the remnants of ansys after uninstall the program? I can be missing some. I think this error is somehow related to older ansys install files.
Thank you in advance. -

Ansys EmployeeEren,
This is the first time you mention the error message. The description in your original post is always somewhere along the line of 'nothing happens' , after clicking something.
If your error message is like this, this is the question for Physics Simulation -> Fluid Dynamics section. I'd recommend to create a new thread on there.
Thanks,
Win
