Error: Invalid “Geometry”.

      Hello,

I've been working on a model of a cable supported traffic signal assembly attempting to obtain its natural frequency and to simulate the response of the assembly to various wind induced forces. I'm using Ansys 17.2. I set up a modal analysis and a static structural analysis. However, I will only include the modal analysis in the file that I will attach to my post. I ran the modal analysis by clicking solve and received an error stating Invalid “Geometry”. I placed fixed end boundary conditions at the top and bottom of the straps that are supporting the traffic signals and ran the analysis and received no Invalid “Geometry” errors. Once I eliminated the fixed end conditions and reinstated the contact points between the straps and the top and bottom cable I received an Invalid “Geometry” error. I believe the error originates somewhere in the cables or in the contact points between the cables and straps. I used shared topology method for the cables since they are a set of individual lines and the contact points are closed. I’m at a loss as to what may be causing this error. Please, if anybody can share suggestions about correcting this error it will be greatly appreciated.  I've inserted an image indicating the contact points between the cables and straps.

      Thank you

      Beny

Can you double check your geometry using Design Modeler (Tools>Repair) or try a later version?

How about when you turn off shared topology and use bonded contacts instead? Does it help?

      Sandeep,

I attempted the repair tool and it did repair a couple of geometric line a radii issues on the traffic signals and ran the model and received the invalid geometry error. I also turned off shared topology and used bonded contacts instead and ran the model and also received the invalid geometry error. I turned on shared topology and used it along with bonded contacts and received the same error. The error may originate from the cables and I'm trying to troubleshoot that area of the assembly. Please if you can think of any other suggestions I will appreciate it.

      Thank you

      Beny
