Hi I am trying to run a particle impact on substrate simulation, but I am running into an issue where my particle goes straight through my substrate. My particle has a 20 micron diameter and is travelling at 600 mm/ms. Im using mm, kg, and GPa for my units. I am using a surface to surface contact, with the Johnson cook material model. I have included a images of my contact set-up and material model parameter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello,Â
Please consider following poitns:Â
Â
- In general particle method requieres *CONTACT_AUTOMATIC_NODE_TO_SURFACE
- Please look at the BSORT position in Option card A.Â
Â
Which particle method are you using?Â
Thanks,
AlexÂÂ

Hi Alex thank you for the reply, I am fairly new to impact simulations. I modelled the particle as a solid and then selected its nodes to create a segement. I used that segement and the surface of the substrate for the contact. Here are my MAT, EOS, and CONTACT cards. The TERMINATION time I am using is 1e-4 ms. I added the TIMESTEP card and kept default values. I am writing to the d3plot with DT = 1e-8 ms.Â

Here is a link to my keyword file.
My particle just dissapears when I try to check the d3 plot.Â

Hello,Â
Please note that Ansys employees cannot download or view any files posted on that forum.ÂCould you describe your problem/what are you trying to simulate? Â I am not sure about using *CONSTRAINED_LAGRANGE_IN_SOLID.
Could you elaborate on particle disappearing in d3plots? Are they eroding or disappearing after first timestep? How does your total energy graph look like?
