SubscriberHi,
I'm trying to explore Microscopic particle model (MPM) to see if I can achieve the same results as obtained through performing simulations on a Discrete element method (DEM) solver.
I'm unable to find much resources, can you please point out to a few?
I'm able to find much work on DEM but not MPM, it would be great if you could please explain or point out to resources from where I can learn more about MPM.
Why is MPM not much preferred in comparison to DEM (I had to access MPM through the console even on Ansys Fluent)?
Thanks,
Kiran -

Ansys EmployeeHi,
Did you check out the Fluent User and Theory guide regarding MPM:
Chapter 24: Modeling Macroscopic Particles (ansys.com)
Chapter 13: Modeling Macroscopic Particles (ansys.com)

Forum ModeratorIt's generally best to choose the model to suit the physics - trying to compare two models may not work well depending on what is happening in the flow. Both results will be numerically correct, but both assume different things: read the documentation to understand those.Â
To add, I'd favour Rocky + Fluent for DEM, Fluent's DEM model has it's uses but I'd not try and use it in the same scenario as MPM.Â

SubscriberHey,Thanks for pointing me to useful info.
Are there tutorials from which I can learn from?ÂThanks -

Forum ModeratorRocky should get a course on AIS (Learning) very soon. MPM information is (I think) limited to what's in the manual. As we don't know what you're trying to model it's difficult to suggest any additional reading material.Â
