Maximum Load and Deflection Profile

      Hello everyone,

I am currently doing a model of RC Hollow Beam and using ANSYS to simulate the 4 point bending test to determine its maximum/ultimate load and deflection profile.

      My question is

      1) How should I set my loading condition to simulate the situation where the beam is gradually loaded until failure? Currently, I am simply assuming a high load value applied over a period of time. Is there a better solution?

      2) How can I obtain the ultimate/failure load for the model?

      3) How can I obtain the deflection profile of the model? I manage to get the ultimate deformation, but is there a way to show it in a graph like picture below?

I am hoping to get be able to represent the result in a graph similar to this:

This might seem to be the basic but I am really new to ANSYS, hopefully there's knowledgeable one that can guide me on this one. Thank you.

Read this excellent post by Peter on how to simulate failure. Some models are also attached.

Here is another article that might be useful. You also have advanced material models in ANSYS which can predict material failure. Note that in Continuum Damage Mechanics failure is shown as a history variable.

For plotting, refer to these links:

I'm sorry, but it seems like that is not quite what I need.

My problem is not just about seeing the failure, but getting the ultimate load that leads to it. So far ANSYS requires me to input a load to observe the result, but I am looking for the failure load. I need an algorithm/method that allows me to apply increasing load and stop at failure.

The graph plot tutorial was on point, thanks for that, but I fail to make it work. For some reason, my tabular data tab is empty and the chart cannot be generated.

      Please help me...thanks

Hello. I've been trying to work on these problems, too. I want to ask if you have already figure it out to solve for the maximum deformation or loadings that the beam can carry before its failure?
