I'm trying to solve a leafspring assembly problem. I'm using Explicit Dynamic but I get the following error:

What questions are you trying to answer with this model?

Why did you choose Explicit Dynamics over Transient Structural?

Perhaps you can get the answers you need in a Static Structural model.

Thanks for your answer. I am new to Ansys, I was trying to solve the problem in Static Structuctural but had penetration problems between spring leaves.

I apply a displacement and I want to know what is the stress in the leaf spring.

Don't use Explicit Dynamics to solve Statics problems.

Did you create frictional contact between each leaf?

Did you use the Contact Tool to check initial contact status and find the contacts were closed?

Did you turn on Large Deflection?

Did you turn on Automatic Time Stepping?

Did you set the Initial Substeps to 100?

I tried with No separation contacts type in Static Structurak

      I got this result:

Is the result good or not good? I can't be sure looking at the image, but it looks not good.

If it is not good, then don't use No Separation contact, do use Frictional Contact.

You should consider using symmetry, even though the geometry doesn't look perfectly symmetrical, and cut the model in half down the center. That will constrain the leafs to the center.

      Sorry for answering late.

      Thanks for your help.

I have used frictional contact but I still have the same problem.

      Micaela,

Did you turn on Large Deflection?

Did you turn on Automatic Time Stepping and set the Initial Substeps to 100?

Did you insert a Contact Tool under the Connections folder and generate the Initial Contact Status?  All the contacts must be closed or near.  None can be Far Open or they will be ignored. Please check that if you haven't already.

If you want me or someone else to take a look at your model, create a Workbench Project Archive .wbpz file and use the Attach button which appears after you post your reply.

I don't use APDL so I can't help with this one, sorry.
