Hey everyone,
What is the "global drop-off material" in Ansys ACP-pre?
I am modeling a simple structure with Epoxy-Carbon Fiber as the fabric. In one of the tutorial Videos I saw the global drop-off material being assigned as "Resin-epoxy", while converting the Shell model to ist equivalent solid model.
Does that mean it is the "Matrix", or in other words the "core material" that holds the fabric plies together?
Let me know if anyone has any idea about this field. Thanks a lot.

Did you manage to understand this concept? I still would like to clarify it, thanks.

I too am looking for more info on this:
I think it only models ply drop offs (a gradual thickness reduction where there is a sudden drop in number of plies). See section 3.2.8 (p 83) of E.J. Barbero, Finite element analysis of composite materials using ANSYS, CRC press, 2013
However, I am really not sure

I think you are totally right, Leigh. That book actually explains quite well the concept.
However, in my case, I was trying to figure out a way to define a matrix for the laminate. As far as I've seen, there are some materials in Workbench's library like the ones with the suffix 'prepreg' that not only include the fibers but also the matrix itself, so using this one and correctly defining the plies orientation would be sufficient to define for instance a CFRP material.
That being said, I would appreciate an answer from the ANSYS team to clarify all these doubts.
