SubscriberHello, I want to carry out a free decay test simulation on the sway motion of this FOWT structure. but I didn't see any damping response occurring. the structure simply moves in its initial position, and remains stationary. Does anyone understand the principle of the decay test on SWAY translational motion? and how to set up the simulation in Ansys AQWA, thank you

Ansys EmployeeA freely floating structure has no horizontal plane (surge, sway and yaw) hydrostatic stiffness, there is no way to do a sway freely decaying test for such model. Please define the proper mooring system of this FOWT structure. As the mooring system may provide the stiffness along the horzontal plane directions, you may see the sway decaying time domain response. It may be even better if you can define the current drag coefficients for this structure, then the nonlinear viscous drag forces will be included in the freely decaying test.
