Large SERS Simulation

      Hello,

I'm trying to do a SERS simulation of a 3D substrate, but Lumerical keeps crashing when I try to import the 3D substrate model (first image). Also, if I reduce the model into a smaller subsection (second image) it then gets stuck building the model. I realize the root of my problem is from how detailed the 3D model is, it's a 1.5 GB .STL file that was created using Blender. When looking at other SERS 3D simulation papers they usually just opt to simulate a single or pair of nanoparticles rather than a full nanoparticle structure. Has anyone done something similar or know what computer specs might be satisfactory for this project?Large cluster of nanoparticles decorated with smaller nanoparticles

      Hello,

It would be easier for the software to handle the geometry if it was built in the software with geometry objects like Spheres instead of importing a polygon with a large number of vertices.

That being said, even if you were able to build the geometry, running the simulation would require a large amount of computational resources due to the large simulation region small feature sizes. I can't really say how much unless you give a scale for these objects in your simulation, but it could easily require ~100s of GB of memory.
