Hello, 

I am trying to model a rail with a bracket, the rail is a hollow cyclinder, and is fixed at both ends. A load is applied through the bracket.

I am struggling to get the model to run - is the below set up correct in principle? i.e is this kind of contact between a beam element and a solid possible?

Are there any obvious areas to look at first, such as contact set up.

Hi

Yes, I would start instead of a force (so take it away) to go with a remote displacement on the 3D part and then pull it down in x - direction by 1 mm  (other directions = 0) say and then you can look a the reaction at the fixed sup. to get the force. In that way it will solve and you will see if the contact works so by checking if the beam deflects.

I have now got the model to work by changing the 'edge contact type' from nodes on edge to line segments
