Initial temperature field problem in transient thermal module

I am working on are initial temperature problem using the transient thermal module.

To assign initial temperature in different locations,

      1. Calculate an initial temperature rise.
      2. Create little volumes in CAD for the intended temperature distribution.
      3. Create Named sections for each volume in the module.
      4. Assign an average temperature for each little volume using APDL command: CMSEL,s,volumename, and IC, volumename, TEMP, temperaturevalue.

Instead of performing the above, can ANSYS import using a temperature field function T(x,z) or T(x,y,z) as an initial temperature condition?

Use an External Data block from the Component Systems section of the Toolbox in Workbench. Drag and drop that onto the Setup cell of your Transient Thermal analysis.  You can use that for Initial Conditions.

Great, thanks!  Got it to work!
