      Hello Dears,

Since, I've started Learning Ansys I have some question and can't find a specific comprehensive answer for it. the main question is:

When to use which study type?

For Example: what is the difference between Motion Study (With one or more bodies flexible) and Transient Analysis (with the same bodies flexible)?

I mean when to use which? as both are offereing stresses on the flexible bodies?

Q2: Does motion analysis support non-linearity (like material, Geometry and Contacts)

Q3: Can Harmonic Analysis be non-linear? and support non-linear materila and contacts?

Q4: Can MSUB Transinet analysis be used with Non-linear contacts like (Frictional or Frictionless)?

Q5: Is the main difference between Transient analysis and Non-linear static is inertia calculations? if so, why use Quasi-Static when it is easier to solve with non-linear static?

Q6: How it is available to use quasi-static in static structural analysis? as it is mainly not account for any inertia!

I know it might seem like basic questions but I really think they are the main key to understand when to use which study.

Thanks in advance for your help!

      Hi Muhammad,

      1. Ansys Motion is more focused on the dynamic behavior of multibody systems, while Ansys Transient Analysis aims to study the time-varying behavior of structures and components, including both rigid and flexible bodies.

      2. Ansys motion does support all types of nonlinearity

      Motion Capabilities (ansys.com)

      3. Harmonic Analysis is a linear dynamic analysis method that predicts the steady-state dynamic response of a structure under harmonic loads

      4. Please check the below course on MSUB analysis.

Mode Superposition Transient Analysis Intro | Ansys Courses

      5. Quasi-static analysis is employed when the load is varying slowly, and the system’s response can be considered quasi-static, i.e., the system’s dynamic effects can be neglected, but the non-linearities (material, geometry, or contact) are still important. Quasi-static analysis can be computationally less expensive than transient dynamic analysis because it omits time-dependent properties and calculations. In summary, you would use Non-linear static analysis for systems with non-linearities, where inertial effects are not significant, while Transient analysis is more appropriate for systems that include time-varying loads or properties and require the consideration of inertia.

      Thanks,

      Akshay Maniyar
