ANSYS workbench takes forever to save

      Hi,

Ansys workbench takes forever to save after ansys fluent crashed due to some error in the UDF. After which I tried to restart fluent but nothing would happen. The application was responding and the status bar kept showing ready but fluent wouldn't open. I clicked save but it's stuck and its been 15 minutes. This is the third time that has happened and I had to terminate the application using task manager the previous two times.

      Hello James,

If Fluent had crashed, it is possible that some of the project files have become corrupted. I would suggest closing Workbench and restarting from the Fluent Setup cell. You might need to Reset the Fluent Solution cell to clear its data to ensure to restart from a clean setup.

I did do that the previous three times, I also did a clean install of Ansys student but I don’t want to keep restarting every time fluent crashes because I am not that great at writing UDFs. Additionally, the entire project stops working, I tried to simply close the window but it wouldn't work. Eventually I terminated Workbench using task manager which probably corrupted the project even more.

If you have difficulties with UDFs and need to run some tests, I would suggest exporting your case file to run your tests outside of the Workbench project. Once you are confident that it will run through, then you can go through your project with the correct files.
