ANSYS 19.1 on Mac : “The Geometry editor was closed abnormally”

      Hello All,

I'm currently running the student version of ANSYS 19.1 on my macbook pro using the Parallels Desktop 13. I got the workbench to run fine and ran some tests with topology optimization using some .iges files from a friend. I find that I am not able to use Spaceclaim from the Workbench, but can open spaceclaim on its own fine. When I try to open up the Spaceclaim from Workbench I get an error saying "The geometry editor was closed abnormally". I've read some of the other discussions and tried to follow along, but I'm wondering if this is all because of the graphics card? I've even seen an article from Cornell to do the same as I did without any complications. (https://confluence.cornell.edu/display/SIMULATION/ANSYS+Installation+Guide+for+Mac+OSX)

      Hello,

Please refer to these links to see the tested Graphics cards and Display support:

      https://www.ansys.com/-/media/ansys/corporate/files/pdf/solutions/it-professionals/platform-support/ansys-191-graphics-cards-tested.pdf?la=en

I would suggest that a compatible Graphics card could be used or you can also try to update the Graphics driver for the Graphics card that you have.

Also, you can check Event Viewer > Application logs > See Error and check what it complains about the Spaceclaim crash  >Check the .dll file and see if it complains about Graphics (Intel or Graphics)

      Thank you.

      Hi,

If this is the case "I find that I am not able to use Spaceclaim from the Workbench, but can open spaceclaim on its own fine." , it may be worth to try this

Rename the following folders (to anything)

      C:UsersAppDataLocalSpaceClaim

      C:UsersAppDataRoamingSpaceClaim

      C:UsersAppDataRoamingAnsysv191

Then, run "CAD Configuration Manager v19.1" with 'run as administrator' > select SpaceClaim Direct Modeler > Next > Configure Selected CAD Interfaces

      Thanks,

      Win

Hi tsiriaks , I am using windows 10 but I have the same issue

I can launch spaceClaim 19.1 from the start menu, but can't get it to launch from ansys workbench.

I followed your steps but when I click on "configure products and cad". As you can see in the attached image, nothing is displayed. Any ideas?

      Hi tsiriaks

I followed this method and it did not fix my issue but rather another one that I had with the formatting of Mechanical. I've been looking to reset it because it had become troublesome. Each time I needed work on something in the outline, the geometry view would disappear. My solution to the SpaceClaim issue is just opening it on my own, creating or working on a geometry and then saving it to upload in the workbench. This is the only way i have found to work for my situation, so hopefully it'd be a good solution for others as well. Thank you for all your help!! :-)

      Hi ahmedBadawi ,

That's a different tool. There is another tool with exactly this name "CAD Configuration Manager 19.1"

Also, what was the installation package that you used ? Is it "ANSYS Student" or "ANSYS AIM Student" ?

      Hi kpep ,

Thank you for the input. That seems to be a good workaround. Do you also see the blank page if you run "Product & CAD Configuration 19.1" ? If so, I would recommend to try installing some products from the "ANSYS Student" package and see if SpaceClaim is properly configured to work with Workbench.

      Thank you,

      Win
