Hello all,
I have been working with this ANSYS stent tutorial for some time now. After many attempts of following the steps for Expansion outlined in Homework 2, I have been unable to successfully solve this model. I have made adjustments to the sheath thickness, changed the contact behavior, followed the tutorial with multiple versions of my own geometry, and many other angles, all to no avail.
Since this tutorial is multiple years old, I am beginning to wonder if there are updated settings that need to be adjusted in order to work with the ANSYS version I am currently using (2022 R1). Attached below is a general picture of the issue I have faced: while the sheath is expanding as expected, the sheath is remaining still and not reacting to any forces.
I would greatly appreciate any advice on this subject and am able to provide additional photos/videos/information if necessary. Thank you in advance!

Hello Edmund,
Regarding your willingness to upload material, please note that all Ansys employees aren’t allowed to download attachments from the community.
As for your post, please make sure that firstly, all the units of the post-processing data (material properties, mesh, loads, boundary conditions) are correct. Also, make sure that you have the right amount of boundary conditions as demonstrated by the video instructions.
Please let me know if that helps.
Thank you,
Tasos

Hi Tasos,Â
Thank you for your response. I double checked units and boundary conditions and have still received the same result. I even replaced the provided geometry with my own identical version and still got the same issue.
Is there any troubleshooting steps I can take to identify why the stent is not expanding while the sheath is?
Thank you for your assistance,
Edmund Totah

Hello Edmund,
Please check the solved model from your link in your first post (Homework 3 -> Simulation starting point.wbpz).
That model solves in 2022 R2 and 2023 R1 in the last release.
If you follow the instructions and do everything exactly as the tutorial, then it all works.
All the best,
Tasos
