Hello,
I am trying to model 4 circular beams which are pushed against a solid. The contact is frictional.
If I model this setup without an offset, the contact between beam and solid seems to be between the beam midline and the nodes on the suface of the solid body. So this way the actuel beam geometry penetrates the solid by half the diameter.
What I would lie to achieve ist that the beam does not penetrate the solid, as in this model where the beam geometry is modeled as a solid aswell.
I already tried to set an offset in the contact definitions and if I do set a positive offset the solution looks like I want it, but it does not convert. All other contact parameters are unchanged. I already increased the number of iterations, but that did not help either.
Â
Same is true if I do not apply an offset but change the 'Edge contact type' to 'line segments'. When I look at the Force convergence plot for this setup it seems as if the Force Convergence already is below the Force Criterion but the last substeps doesn't convert:
My Analysis settings are:
Any help on why the solution does not convert or a hinf if there is another way to model this problem would be very appreciated.
Regards
Moritz

So I did solve the problem with the offset by increasing the substeps to inital: 1000, minimum: 500, maximum: 5000
