Hello all,
I'm trying to simulate snow accumulation on a flat plate on fluent, I've tried using DPM (I'm unable to check for snow accumulation from DPM) but I'd like to know what other methods I can use to simulate snowfall in a small domain.
Can this be achieved with DEM? If yes then how do I learn more about it?
Please suggest your ideas here.
Thanks in advance!!

DPM can give an accretion rate, but won't show a packed volume. Eulerian/Mixture will show the volume but not the angle of repose or account for "stickiness": it will show drifts around buildings etc, but I don't have a reference to the article. I'd have a look at Ansys Rocky. The Fluent DEM model is not recommended for this.Â

Hey Rob,
Thanks for the detailed answer!
ESSS rocky is a software that I must get a license to use (unlike Ansys which is provided free of cost by my university).
I’d like to know your suggestion on what other options I could potentially explore in Fluent for my work.
If you can please point out good sources from where I could learn it would be great.Â

Check with University IT, I don't know what the campus agreements are, but as it's now Ansys Rocky you may have access with an update.Â
Have a look at Learning (left, upper on this page) and the tutorials on Fluent's Help system. There has been work done for snow drifts and sand dune motion at various times but I don't have anything specific that I can share.Â
