SubscriberHello all,
For my current project I am doing a fluid structure interaction simulation. I know have the fluidics down and working and want to integrate the solid mechanics.
However, there is one issue. I need to do an axisymmetric model due to computational time (12 months for the fluid flow without axisymmetrical boundary conditions). Fluent uses the X-axis for the axis, but Structural uses the Y axis. Is it possible to modify the base axis in one of these scenarios (preferably in Structural since I then dont have to rerun the fluidic computation).
Additionally, since I work with a multicomponent system, is there a way to create bonds in a axisymmetrical model? Currently my initial contaxt tool generates the following error:
This might be due to the meshing but the mesh keeps neglecting curvatures and creating overlap in the mesh in exactly the contact region.
Thanks for any tips

Ansys EmployeeHi Swen, To solve your problem, you have to use the External Data connection. If you haven't used this before, it involves exporting a .csv file of data from Fluent and using External Data to transfer this to Mechanical. In External Data, you can modify the coordinates so the mapping is done correctly. For Fluent axisymmetric cases, the axis has to be the x axis and the mesh has to be in the positive y region. In External Data, you have to set column B (Fluent x-coordinate) to Y Coordinate, and column C (Fluent y-coordinate) to X Coordinate. For the contacts, I am not sure what's your exact problem but I would suggest checking the contact normal so all of them have the same orientation. -

SubscriberHello Lydia,
Thank you for the reply and sorry for the delay. I was trying to get it to work but when I export the data in CSV from CFD-post my data only contains the nodal coordinates, without the associated temperatures and pressures, is there a setting I might have forgotten?

Kind regards,
Swen

SubscriberApparently it was an issue with just restarting workbench and its exporting properly now
