Named selection not displaying in fluent

      I created a journal bearing sketch using design modeler but on naming the inlet and outlet, the named selection isn't displaying in the fluent for me to set the boundary conditions.

      I am suspecting the geometry as it selects both edges as one

      Do you have overlapping edges? Surface body? Solid body? Please explain your geometry or share your project file achieve to understand more in detail.

      From your description it sounds like an interface rather than a surface. Please share a picture or a file to investigate further.

      Hello,


      I'm encountering a similar problem. The named selections are not visible in the solver. On the other hand Ansys is creating interfaces for which I'm not able to enter the Boundary Conditions. It's a 2D Geometry with many solid - liquid interfaces.

      Sounds like you didn't create a multibody part (DesignModeler) or use Share Topology (SpaceClaim). Do that and try again.

      As you can see 'S' is the solid region and 'F' is the fluid region. There are similar regions, throughout the geometry. Now ansys is creating interfaces by default for this region and I am not able to enter boundary conditions for these interfaces. Also the named memory selection is not visible in spite of opting for the import them in the geometry section. Hence, I'm stuck with not being able to enter the boundary conditions.

      Yes, if the mesh does not match it'll create contact regions in Meshing. These will automatically become nonconformal interface zones in Fluent. You can edit these to give a wall type contact (for fluid-solid interfaces) but that's about it.  Remember in 2d an inlet is an edge, so check you're defining correctly, and you only have mesh on one side of that edge.

      Yeah I get it. But as I said I need to enter the Boundary conditions for the simulation and the named memory locations are not being imported in spite of opting for the default import option in the geometry section. Also I  am not able to enter the BC's at the interface. None of the options are available. The inlet is defined correctly.

      Interfaces are purely to connect zones: other than a wall setting & some numerical options there's nothing to set.   Is the model 2d or 3d? What boundaries are you trying to set?

      It's 2D. It's to study solidification. Hence thermal boundary conditions. But I am not able to see my named memory locations.

      Can you show what you've labelled in meshing? The NS will transfer if they're valid, but if you've set surfaces as walls they'll not show up in Fluent: you need a conformal mesh & edge settings.
