Hi,
I want to ask how the grain shape is determined by ansys additive science ? Before using the circle equivalence method to determine the grain size i want to know how firstly the grain shape is detected?
and what is the approach used to detect the shape before measuring the size by the circle equivalence method?Â
and finally what is the accuracy of the approach used?
thank you.

I would refer you to the published reference listed in Additive Print and Science Users Guide.
"Akram, Javed, et. al., (2018) Understanding Grain Evolution in Additive Manufacturing Through Modeling. Vol 21. 255-268."
This paper in particular offers a number of additional reference papers for further study.

i have already read this article and i did not find the answer of my question, how the grain shape is detected ? what is the approach used apart from the CA method ?

The circle equivalence method is the most common approach in material science and is also used in EBSD-SEM microscopes to calculate the grain size of non-circular or irregular shaped grains. In this method, the grain shape is not required for the calculation. Instead, the area of each grain (total count of pixels/cells representing the grains) is considered equal to the area of a circle and, based on that, the diameter of the grain is computed.Â
