Referencing adjacent geometry while creating new edge/face?

      How do I take the reference of adjacent geometry while creating new edge/face?

      While creating new edge or face, press key and select the adjacent geometrical entities as reference. These selected entities are highlighted in blue color and are used as reference while creating new edge/face.
