SubscriberHi all.
I want to calculate a wooden beam in static analysis. I need to set the modulus of elasticity in the material in different axes along XYZ, because the modulus of elasticity along the wood fibers and across are different. How to do it?
I would also like to get recommendations on how to correctly calculate a beam from a bar. The beam will be fixed on both sides. The load will be from above, a standard task.

Ansys EmployeeHi Javat,
After selecting Static Structural as your Analysis System, you can double-click on Engineering Data to open a list of available material models. From the toolbars on left, you can select "Orthotropic Elasticity" under Linear Elastic toolbar where you can specify Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, and shear modulus to be different along the X, Y, and Z axes.

SubscriberThanks I got it. Tell me what is the criterion that a wooden beam withstood the load?

SubscriberInsert an Element Orientation item under the Geometry branch of Mechanical so that the material X, Y and Z axes are properly aligned to your geometry. Â

SubscriberYes, I know it.
According to the results of the calculation, how to understand that the product made of wood withstood or did not pass according to the results of the calculation?
In the material properties of wood, we set only orthotropic elastic properties and density, the tree does not have a yield strength (to check the safety factor). Wood has other indicators, such as static bending strength. Compare the result with these data?
