Importing *.iam files generated by Autodesk Inventor

There is a function importing *.iam and *.ipt files generated by Autodesk Inventor. *.ipt files are for 3d parts, and *.iam are 3d assemblies. SpaceClaim is capable to import both.

In case of importing *.iam files and these solid figures are also edited in *.iam file not only in *.ipt, the results of edition in *.iam files are ignored during importing into SpaceClaim.

Is there any setting to make result of deforming parts in assembly effective at import?

      Hello Shima

When you are reading assembly file in SpaceClaim, it references the part files included in the assembly file. If the part file does not have any changes, you won't see it in the imported assembly file. You will have to make changes to the part file which will reflect in your assembly file.

Naresh Patre Thank you for your help.

I understand the behavior of SpaceClaim, however, this function does not satisfy what we want to do.

Autodesk Inventor is capable to include modification of solid in *.iam files not only in *.ipt, and the result will be reflected to the model in case of exporting to STEP file, for example.

Certainly, it is possible to import the result described above to SpaceClaim via. STEP files. But we have to export the model to STEP from Autodesk Inventor once. Is there any way to avoid doing this?

      Hello Shima

There is one limitation mentioned in Help document (SpaceClaim - File Operations - Importing and Exporting - Import - Inventor section) that assembly level features are not supported. Since modifying geometry in assembly file will be a assembly level feature, so it won't get imported. Only the underlying part file geometry will get imported.
