SubscriberWhich of the following is a better option: highest fidelity with mid-side notes as dropped or second highest fidelity with mid-side notes kept? (I am using Discovery Aim and in that, the fidelity bar has five levels so highest is 5th and second highest is 4th). My model cannot solve (or takes way longer time) for highest fidelity with mid-side notes kept and hence, I am left to choose between the aforementioned two options.
I guess I have this doubt because I am unsure what mid-side notes actually are. I would really appreciate if someone could guide me on that as well.

Ansys EmployeeHello calvintan Mid-side nodes are nodes created at the center of edges of any mesh element. See below snapshot where the elements have midside nodes. Mesh elements having mid side nodes are referred as quadratic elements.The mesh elements which don't have mid side nodes are referred as linear elements. Please check out below link from help documentation for details on mid-side nodes (you will have to scroll the page down to locate the section on mid-side nodes). https://ansyshelp.ansys.com/account/secured?returnurl=/Views/Secured/corp/v202/en/aim_all/AIM/user_manual/aim_meshing/topics/r_msh_advanced_properties_for_selective_meshing.html When a structural analysis is being performed using Discovery AIM, the mid-side node option is used as a default option for generating mesh. Mesh with Mid side nodes i.e. quadratic elements offer higher degree of freedom over linear elements and help to correctly calculate stresses and deformations. The fidelity bar helps to increase the mesh density. If you are solving a structural problem, I would recommend keeping the mid-side nodes. Now, you can first generate the mesh using default fidelity setting and review the mesh. If you think the mesh needs refinement at specific locations of interest, you can add local sizings in those locations instead of increasing the fidelity, which will refine the mesh in the entire model. This approach will help to control on the mesh count. Please let me know if you have any questions.
