SubscriberHello,
Another one of our customers has the same problem as this previous ticket since the update in 2020R2: floating license problem /forum/forums/topic/floating-license-problem/
Except that this time the customer has 3 floating ansys spaceclaim licenses and 3 other floating licenses for the simulation sold by another distributor.
Previously (before 2020R2) Spaceclaim was used by the design office and the simulation licenses (including spaceclaim too) were used by the calculation service.
Today all the licenses are mixed up and they have lost (the calculation service) the possibility to launch spaceclaim in read-only mode without stealing the design office licenses.
Is there a solution to make sure that the allocated licenses remain allocated to the dedier service?ÂLet me know if my request is clear.

Ansys EmployeeHello charlie
Were the floating SpaceClaim license and simulation (Workbench) licenses working fine before 2020R2 version?
Are the licenses of both products installed on same server machine? Is it possible to install them on different server and check if that helps?

SubscriberHello,
Yes the licenses worked well before and they can't install on 2 separate servers.
However we have found an alternative solution (although imperfect): in the license server "calculation service", we have forced the execution in 2020R1 while it uses the 2020R2 so the licenses are not borrowed from the "design service" and are executed in read-only.
If ever a better solution is possible, I'm a taker... -

SubscriberHello,
After a few days of use this solution is not viable. The calculation service needs to be able to open "R2". After searching you offer an executable called "user license preference 2020R2".
But we don't understand how it works... we have set all priorities to 0 except for discovery level 1 for a user of the design service but when he launches ANSYS SpaceClaim it's again a Direct Modeler license that runs!ÂI join you by mail some pictures of the manipulations made for a better comprehension

Ansys EmployeeHello charlie
The User License Preferences 2020R2 tool can be used to establish your licensing preferences, especially if you have multiple licenses at your site. You can control the order in which the system attempts to check-out a license by moving the licenses up and down in the list using the Move Up or Move Down buttons. You can find detailed information on user license preferences in the online help document at below link:

SubscriberHello,
We tried to change the license preferences for users (in admin mode) without success....
I can't figure out which Key belongs to which license...
the customer bought 3 floating discovery Spaceclaim licenses. in his installation file you can see:
-INCREMENT a_spaceclaim_dirmod ansyslmd 9999.9999
-INCREMENT disco_level1 ansyslmd 9999.9999
Which product does these licenses correspond to?ÂToday in "2020 R2 license preferences for...." section geometry you can seeÂ
-Discovery - level 1
- Ansys Spaceclaim Direct modeler
- Ansys mechanical enterpriseWhat preference should he give to the user of the "design office" who only needs Spaceclaim
and what preference should he give to the user of the "calculation office" so that he can use mechanical and his version of spaceclaim without taking the licenses of the "design office" and vice versa! Thanks

Ansys EmployeeHello charlie
INCREMENT a_spaceclaim_dirmod refers to SpaceClaim Direct Modeler or the SpaceClaim that is a part of Workbench installer
INCREMENT disco_level1 refers to Discovery - Level 1 i.e. Discovery products.
The user of the "design office" should set Discovery - level 1 at the top in the License Preferences list, whereas the user of the "calculation office" should set Ansys mechanical enterprise at the top.
