Co-ordinate system of crack

      Hello Everyone!

I generated a #semi-elliptical crack in a cylindrical #bamboo model. But since the crack needs to be aligned longitudinally to carry out the buckling analysis,  I couldn't follow the basic requirements for the local coordinate system of cracks which is; the X-axis:  towards the body, Y-axis: in the direction of the load, and Z-axis in the crack direction. In order to have a longitudinal crack, I adjusted the z-axis but the direction of the y-axis isn't where it is supposed to be, since the load would be applied from the top. I have attached an image showing the coordinate system for my crack generation.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me through this.

      Thank you in advance!

      Regards,

      Divya Giri

      Hello Ashish,

Thank you for the reference. It was indeed helpful.

Although I have one more doubt. My task is not to simulate the propagation of the crack, but rather to generate a 3D crack( with some length, depth, and thickness) into a model and simulate the model to compression and buckling in the presence of that crack. I have tried generating using the Semi-elliptical cracking method.

Do you think it is possible to generate such a crack where one can know how deep and thick it is?

      Thank you in advance!

      Regards,

      Divya Giri
