Ansys Fluent – Coupled Simulations

I have a question about running a coupled simulation between two separate cases in the same Workbench project. Specifically, I am trying to share heat transfer data from the exterior surface of one body to the interior surface of another body. Each body will be in its own case in Workbench.

Initially, both bodies were meshed together such that they have shared topology and matching meshes on all common/imprinted faces.

I have then separated each body into its own case by duplicating the original case and suppressing the unwanted body from each case respectively. The reason behind this is to further optimize the number of elements in each case such that the computational time is reduced.

Is it possible to input heat transfer data from the first case into the second case while running both simulations simultaneously? I have done some reading into the coupled simulations tutorials, which were more directed towards sharing data between different solvers, but wasn't sure if it could be applied in the manner described above. Any assistance would appreciated.

      Thanks.

Not yet. It may be possible in the future, but at present you'd be better off solving the whole model in one go. If you can't, profiles can transfer the data but it's not automatic.

Thank you for your response. Just to clarify what you mean about transferring profiles, specifically for my application, I would first solve one case and then transfer the data from the exterior of that body to the interior of the other body in the other case? Each case would be solved individually and I would transfer any applicable data from the first case to the second. Am I understanding this correctly? Furthermore, can you point me towards a tutorial or document that details how to do this process.

        Thanks again.

Correct. I'm not sure there is a tutorial. Have a look at the read and write profiles options in Physics>Zones (ribbon).
